Following each paper participants were encouraged to share their experiences and discuss future needs in research and development. Among the topics presented were avalanche control methods, numerical models of avalanches, mountain weather, and avalanche forecasting.

14 posters and a new film were presented along with commercial exhibits. The International Commission on the Classification of Snow met and discussed standards of operation.

Additionally, biennial meetings of the membership of the Canadian Avalanche Association and the American Avalanche Association became part of the ISSW agenda.

Peter Schaerer was the banquet speaker. The field trip visited the Whistler/Blackcomb Ski Area.
